The long awaited and much-hyped Mobile TV market is finally beginning to take shape. Services are springing up in Europe, America and Asia, and Mobile TV trials are being conducted around the world. DVB-H enjoys the most interest, but trials and deployments for T-DMB and MediaFlo are taking root and some attention is turning to other technologies like DAB-IP, TDtv and DMB-T/H.
Activity is being driven by numerous consortiums comprising of broadcasters, such as BSkyB and Canal+, and cellular operators like Vodafone and Orange, along with vendors like Thomson Grass Valley, Harris and Rhode & Schwartz providing much of the necessary transmission infrastructure,whilst handset makers like Nokia and Samsung are supplying compatible devices. |
Mobile TV platform companies like Modeo and Qualcomm are also participating to secure traction for their systems.
